Washington Youth Climate Summit – First Meeting June 28th, 1-4pm

High school and community college students across Washington State are invited to join a Youth Climate Summit on June 28th. Webcasts from local colleges will provide a forum for students to work face to face and also collaborate with students in remote areas of the state. The Youth Climate Summit promises dynamic keynote presentations on Pacific Northwest climate challenges, skillbuilding and networking opportunities.

The June 28th Youth Climate Summit meeting will generate solutions and questions for consideration at a final Summit event on October 1st, 2013.

All sessions will be webcast  from the following Locations:

Columbia Basin College
Grays Harbor College
Highline Community College
Seattle Central Community College
Skagit Valley College
Spokane Community College
South Puget Sound Community College
South Seattle Community College
Walla Walla Community College
Wenatchee Valley College
Yakima Valley Community College
Agenda for the day:

1pm – How is Climate Change Affecting the Pacific
Northwest
National experts will discuss the best available science
and provide a framework for discussion.
2pm – What Is Being Done to Address Climate
Change
State and national leaders will describe innovations in
business, government and public education/organization
efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
3pm – Group Discussion
Student attendees discuss what they have heard and
address a list of questions generated by Washington state
business leaders and policy makers. The outcome should
be a list of recommendations from students across the
state that will be compiled for the October 1st event..

On October 1st at Meydenbauer Center the final meeting will produce a statement on climate change from our youth leaders.
